Filing a return
Kuting Kitchen's third-quarter VAT return goes through eBIRForms in five stages: numbers, fill, check, submit, and keep the proof. Paying is a separate job.
← 6.3 Your filing setupSame steps, every return
Kuting Kitchen's third-quarter VAT return, the 2550Q, is due 26 October 2026. The VAT due is ₱50,400.
Carla files it through eBIRForms. The steps are the same for every return she files there: numbers, fill, check, submit, keep the proof.
1. The numbers come from the books
Before opening the form, close the books for the period. The return only copies their totals.
If a number on the return can't be traced to the books, stop and find out why before filing.
2. Fill in the form
Open the right form (2550Q), choose the period (third quarter, July to September 2026), check your background details, then enter the amounts. This is the real form, filled in with Kuting Kitchen's numbers.
What goes in which box is in Lesson 4.3, Filing the 2550Q.
3. Check before you submit
eBIRForms checks the form for missing or invalid entries before it lets you submit. It can't check that your numbers are right; that's your job.
Read it once more: the quarter and period, the full TIN with branch code, "amended return" set to No, and every amount matching the books.
4. Submit
Submit the return online. You can file any day before the deadline; there's no reason to wait for the last one.
A quarter with no sales still needs its return. "No payment" returns are filed through eBIRForms too.
5. Keep the proof
After submitting, a pop-up says a confirmation email has been sent to your registered email. Screenshot it. BIR accepts that screenshot as proof of filing until the email arrives, and the bank can accept it when you pay.
The email, the Tax Return Receipt Confirmation, is your proof of filing. No "Received" stamp is needed. (On eFPS, the proof is the Filing Reference Number.)
Filed isn't paid
The ₱50,400 is still unpaid. Pay it by the same deadline (Lesson 6.5), and send the return's attachment, here the SLSP, the Summary List of Sales and Purchases (Lesson 6.6).
Is a return filed on time but paid late still on time? No: it's late, for the unpaid tax.
Found a mistake after filing?
You don't edit a filed return. You file an amended return:
| Form and period | the same: 2550Q, third quarter 2026 |
|---|---|
| Item 5 | "Amended return?" ticked Yes |
| Numbers | the corrected ones, in full |
| Keep with it | proof of the original return and payment |
If the original was filed and paid on time, amending it adds no surcharge. Lesson 6.11 covers corrections and late filing.
If the system is down
Paper filing is allowed only in listed cases, mainly when BIR issues an advisory that its e-filing platforms are unavailable. Save a copy of the advisory with the return.
A slow internet connection on the last day isn't one of those cases. File early.
Pop Quiz: spot the wrong field
Each draft of Kuting Kitchen's Q3 2026 2550Q has one mistake. Tap it.
Draft A: the header
The TIN is missing its branch code. Copy all 14 digits from the 2303: 123-456-789-00000.
Draft B: sales and VAT
Sales go in before VAT: ₱1,200,000. ₱1,344,000 already includes the ₱144,000 VAT.
Draft C: what's payable
The ₱6,000 the marketplaces withheld is income tax, not VAT. It's claimed on the 1702Q; item 16 stays zero.
